Last night for Cub Scouts, we took a trip to the fire station in Monroe. We had 8 boys attend, which was a smaller group than the guys at the station are use to, so they let us see and do a little more than usual. After taking a tour of their facility and saw where they eat, work out, sleep (if they can), receive the 911 info, etc., they took us out to the trucks. The boys were all impressed with the tools that are on the trucks, of course not fully understanding the full meaning of why they are really needed. Then, they broke off into two groups - one taking a ride around the block in one of the fire trucks and the other testing out the hose. Ben got to ride in the front seat of the fire truck. He was very excited and thought it was so cool! Then he got to test out the hose. I did, too. It was fun. Before we left, we also walked up their 7 story hose tower, which is actually the tallest building in Monroe (does that give you an idea of what our city must be like??). The hose tower hangs the hoses to dry, but the fire fighters also use it to practice going up and down flights of stairs with their gear and hoses to put out fires. They also go out the window on the 7th floor and scale down the front of the building on a rope. Sounds like fun, but it's a lot of work and very serious business! The boys were well behaved and they had a lot of fun. A big thanks goes out to our Monroe Fire Fighters!
